Haitai Oh Yes Review: Comparing This Moist Korean Chocolate Cake with Choco Pie
When my children were young, I would sometimes give them an Oh Yes when they would not stop crying or when they behaved well.

In this Haitai Oh Yes review, I will share my experience with its flavor, texture, packaging, and drawbacks. I will also compare it directly with Choco Pie.

Oh Yes has been released in several flavors, but the product I photographed is the original version in the red box. Inside the box are rectangular cakes, each individually wrapped in a silver package. The individual packaging means that you do not have to eat them all at once. It also makes them convenient to share with family members or take with you when going out.
The product shown in my photos contains 12 cakes. The front of the box lists a total weight of 360 grams and 1,800 calories for the entire package. Based on those numbers, each cake weighs 30 grams and contains 150 calories.
However, the box design and number of cakes may vary depending on when and where the product is sold. If you are buying Oh Yes outside Korea, check the total weight and number of cakes rather than relying only on the product name.

What Does Oh Yes Look Like Inside the Package?
When you open an individual wrapper, you will find a rectangular cake that fits in the palm of your hand. The entire cake is coated in chocolate, with irregular lines of darker chocolate across the top.
It does not look as carefully decorated as a cake from a dessert shop, but it is clearly different from a typical cookie or chocolate bar. When you hold it, you can tell that it is not firm like a solid chocolate bar. There is a soft cake inside the coating.
If it is left at room temperature for a long time or exposed to warm weather, the outer chocolate coating may melt onto your fingers. Because the cake is soft, it may also become crushed if it is placed under heavier items in a bag. When carrying one with you, it is better to keep it in a separate pocket rather than at the bottom of your bag.
What the Cross-Section of Oh Yes Reveals
When Oh Yes is cut in half, you can see two thin cake layers with chocolate cream between them. The outside is covered in chocolate, while the inside consists of light-colored cake and a layer of brown cream.
The first thing I notice when eating Oh Yes is its moist, soft texture. Rather than breaking apart like a dry cake, it feels soft and slightly moist in the mouth. Because the cream between the cake layers and the outer chocolate coating can be tasted together, it feels a little like eating a small slice of chocolate cake even though it is a packaged snack.
The chocolate flavor does not come only from the outer coating. It continues through the chocolate cream in the middle. However, this is not a bittersweet snack like dark chocolate. It is noticeably sweet overall.
Personally, I consider the softness of Oh Yes one of its best qualities. On the other hand, someone expecting a crunchy snack or a chewy texture may find it too soft or somewhat ordinary.
What Is the Difference Between Oh Yes and Choco Pie?
Oh Yes and Choco Pie are often compared in Korea. Both are individually wrapped, chocolate-coated cake snacks, but their inner structures are quite different.
When placed side by side, Choco Pie is round while Oh Yes is rectangular. In my photo, Oh Yes appears narrower than Choco Pie, but because the products have different shapes, it is difficult to compare their actual amounts based only on appearance.
The difference becomes even clearer after cutting them in half. Choco Pie has a white marshmallow layer in the middle, while Oh Yes has chocolate cream between its cake layers.
This structural difference also changes the eating experience.

Should You Eat Oh Yes at Room Temperature or Chilled?
I like to keep Oh Yes in the refrigerator and eat it cold.
When chilled, the outer chocolate coating becomes slightly firmer, creating a different texture from an Oh Yes kept at room temperature. Refrigeration can also help prevent the chocolate from melting in warm weather. However, if it becomes too cold, the cake may feel firm, and the soft texture and cream flavor that I enjoy may be less noticeable.
Some people also warm Oh Yes in a microwave, but the chocolate can melt quickly. If you try this method, do not heat it for too long. Remove the wrapper and place the cake on a microwave-safe dish first. The appropriate heating time will vary depending on the microwave’s power.
In my experience, the easiest way to enjoy the original texture of Oh Yes is to eat it at room temperature or directly from the refrigerator. I do not recommend microwaving it.
What I Like and Dislike About Oh Yes
What I like most about Oh Yes is its moist texture. Some packaged cakes can feel dry, but Oh Yes is relatively soft and easy to eat. Because each cake is individually wrapped, it is convenient to share with family members or enjoy as a simple snack with coffee or milk.
However, its softness can also be a disadvantage. It can easily become crushed inside a bag, and small cake crumbs may fall while you eat it. In warm weather, the chocolate coating may also melt onto your fingers or the inside of the wrapper.
Oh Yes is noticeably sweet, and each cake contains 150 calories, so it is worth paying attention to how many you eat. I sometimes want to reach for a second one after finishing the first, but its small size does not necessarily make it a light snack.
What to Check When Buying Oh Yes Outside Korea
If you are shopping for Oh Yes through an overseas online retailer, check the following details:
- Whether the product name is Haitai Oh Yes or Oh Yes Chocolate Coated Cake
- Whether it is the original version, another flavor, or a seasonal product
- The number of cakes and total weight in the box
- Whether there is enough time remaining before the expiration date
- The possibility of the chocolate melting during warm-weather shipping
- Whether the seller provides sufficient ingredient and allergen information
Because this is a chocolate-coated product, the surface may melt or the cake may lose its shape during long-distance shipping in summer. The shipping condition may affect your satisfaction with the product even more than the flavor itself.

Who Might Like Oh Yes—and Who Might Not?

Why Oh Yes Still Brings Back Memories for Me
Today, I do not choose Oh Yes based only on its flavor and texture.
Whenever I see the individual package, I remember my children when they were young. I sometimes gave them one to calm them when they were crying or as a small reward when they did something well. They would finish overdue homework and try hard to do what their parents asked because they wanted an Oh Yes. Those moments have now become part of our family memories.
When I occasionally eat Oh Yes today, those days naturally come back to me. Perhaps this is why many Korean packaged snacks remain in people’s memories for so long. It is not only about how they taste. The people we shared them with and the moments when we ate them become part of the memory.
Oh Yes is not a fancy or new dessert. However, it has a clear combination of moist cake and chocolate cream, with a texture that is different from Choco Pie. I would still choose Oh Yes whenever I want a soft chocolate cake snack.
